I . Transportation

  1. CKS Airport <--> Academia Sinica: It costs about NT$1,300-1,400 by taxi.
  2. Taipei Main (Railway) Station <--> Academia Sinica: It costs about NT$375-425 by taxis. It can be reached by bus-Route No.205, 212, 276. Bus fare is NT$30.
  3. The rate for taxi is NT $70 for the first 1.5 kilometers and NT$5 for each additional 350 meters. A 20% surcharge is added between 11 P.M. and 6 A.M.
  4. By MRT (Metropolitan Rapid Transit, subway): It costs NT $25 for Taipei Main Station <--> Kunyang Station and transfer bus No. 212, 270, or Blue 25. (Kunyang Station <--> Academia Sinica : Bus fare is NT$15.)
  5. Taxi-calling service is offered at the service Activity Center, Academia Sinica. Tel: 886-2-2783-3388.

II . Car Parking

150 Parking lots are available behind Academic Activity Center, Academia Sinica. Admittance is restricted to participants wearing name-badges.

III. Banking Service and Exchange

The server of Taiwan Bank and Land Bank are located on the ground floor of Administration Office, Academia Sinica, providing services including foreign exchange, deposit, and withdrawal. Exchange service is offered at service center of Taiwan Bank which is placed on the 2nd floor of Administration Office, Academia Sinica on Thursday and service center of Land Bank on Monday to Friday from 9:30 to 12:00. The current exchange rate is 1 US dollar to about 35 NT (New Taiwan currency), varying according to the market.

IV. Currency and Tips

The Republic of China's currency is the New Taiwan Dollar (NT$). Paper Money of denominations NT$1000, $500, $200, $100, $50 and hard money are NT$50, $20, $10, $5, $1. The standard tip is about NT$50 per piece of luggage. A 10% service charge is automatically added to room rates and meals. Taxi drivers expect no tips. The counter in the Activity Center offer taxi-calling service, just ask the staff at the counter.
