Response Surface Methodology (RSM) consists of a group of techniques used in the empirical study of relationships between response variable(s) and typically many input variables. The techniques have been used to answer the key question of what values of the input variables (setting) will yield a maximum for the response variable.

RSM has been widely used in various disciplines. In this workshop, we first introduce the fundamental concept of RSM, using examples for illustration.  Details on each step will be discussed, including design of experiment, data analysis, empirical model building and optimization. Mathematical formulation will then be presented and discussed. The state-of-art research results in RSM will be given at the end. Some research potentials in RSM, with more emphasis on screening design, ridge analysis and multiple response system, will be discussed.
